Biography

Károly Ferenczy was born on February 8, 1862, in Vienna. He was a Hungarian painter known as one of the leading representatives of the Nagybánya school of painting, which developed in the city of Nagybánya in Transylvania. In his artistic work, Ferenczy devoted special attention to the genre of portraiture. Besides his artistic activity, he also held a position as a university lecturer. Károly Ferenczy lived and worked during a period when Cisleithania and Hungary had significant cultural influence in the region, which is reflected in his work. He passed away on March 18, 1917, in Budapest.
