Karl Bryullov
Karl Pavlovich Bryullov (1799–1852) was a Russian painter and draughtsman from Saint Petersburg, a representative of Romanticism in painting and creator of the painting "The Last Day of Pompeii." He worked in historical painting, portraiture, genre scenes, monumental murals, and also taught art.
Biography
Karl Pavlovich Bryullov was born on December 12, 1799, in Saint Petersburg into the Bryullov family. He was a Russian painter, draughtsman, and architect associated with the Romantic movement. Bryullov was one of the most significant and influential Saint Petersburg artists of the Nicholas era. In his work, he skillfully combined historical painting and monumental murals, producing the famous canvas "The Last Day of Pompeii." Beyond historical subjects, he also successfully worked in portrait and genre painting. Bryullov was a teacher and graphic artist, highlighting the versatility of his creative endeavors. He belonged to the cultural and national milieu of the Russian Empire. Karl Pavlovich Bryullov passed away on June 11, 1852, in Manciano.
