Biography

Karel Gott was born on July 14, 1939, in Plzeň, Czechoslovakia. He was a notable singer as well as an actor, composer, and painter. Throughout his career, Gott performed in various musical genres, including pop, chanson, romance, and variety music. He became one of the few Czechoslovak performers to gain wide recognition beyond his homeland. Gott sang in multiple languages, including Czech, German, Russian, Slovak, and others. In 1985, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of Czechoslovakia. Karel Gott died on October 1, 2019, in Prague, in the Smíchov district. His work had a significant impact on the development of musical culture in Czechoslovakia and the Czech Republic.
