Kara Walker, born on November 26, 1969, in Stockton, USA, is a distinguished American artist working in the genres of figurativism and socially engaged art projects. She is associated with the contemporary art movement and holds multiple roles in the visual arts sphere, ranging from artist and illustrator to sculptor, photographer, and performance artist. Kara Walker teaches at Columbia University and the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. In 2018, she became a member of the American Philosophical Society. Among her notable works is the project "They Waz Nice White Folks While They Lasted." Through her diverse artistic practices and active educational involvement, Kara Walker contributes significantly to contemporary American art.
