Biography

Kaloki Nyamai is a Kenyan artist based in Nairobi, specializing in large-scale installations. His creative practice focuses on exploring Kenya's history and collective memory through the lens of the traditions of the Akamba people and contemporary narratives. Nyamai employs a variety of materials, including sisal ropes, stitched yarn, acrylic paints, and photo transfers. He often titles his works in the Kikamba language, incorporating precolonial themes and ancestral stories, thereby creating a dialogue between past and present. His artworks investigate themes of identity, resilience, and renewal.
