Biography
Józef Oleszkiewicz was born on October 25, 1777, in the town of Sziluva. He was a Polish-Russian artist and a follower of classicism. Oleszkiewicz is recognized as a master of portraiture and as an author of historical-themed genre paintings. He was a significant artistic figure of the Alexander era and maintained close relations with the circle of Adam Mickiewicz. Additionally, the artist was a Freemason and was awarded the title of academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Throughout his life, Oleszkiewicz worked in the territories of the Russian Empire and the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth (Rzeczpospolita). He passed away on October 5, 1830, in Saint Petersburg.
