Biography

Jozef Cíger-Hronský was born on February 23, 1896, in the town of Zvolen, Slovakia. He was a Slovak writer, playwright, educator, and publicist. Cíger-Hronský held the position of secretary and was one of the leaders of the cultural and educational organization Matica slovenská, which played a key role in the development of Slovak culture. His creative work was primarily in the prose genre. In addition to his literary activities, Jozef Cíger-Hronský also worked as a children's writer, artist, and editor, reflecting the versatility of his talent and a broad range of professional interests. He died on July 13, 1960, in the town of Luhan. His life and work were closely connected with the cultural environment of Slovakia, as evidenced by his national identity and involvement in Slovak cultural life.
