Joseph Spinel

Joseph Aronovich Spinel (1892–1980) was a Soviet artist, filmmaker, and educator born in Bila Tserkva. He worked in painting and graphic arts. Honored as an Artist of the RSFSR in 1940 and awarded the Stalin Prize, 2nd class, in 1951.

Biography

Joseph Aronovich Spinel was born on October 7, 1892, in the city of Bila Tserkva, which at the time was part of the Russian Empire. Throughout his life, he was connected to the culture and art of first the Russian Empire and later the Soviet Union. Spinel worked in painting and graphics, reflecting his creative position as an artist. Beyond his artistic activity, he also worked as a filmmaker and educator, contributing to the development of Soviet art and education. In 1940, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR, which indicated official recognition of his contribution to Soviet culture. In 1951, Joseph Aronovich received the Stalin Prize, 2nd class, one of the USSR's high state honors. He passed away on July 2, 1980, in Moscow, leaving behind a significant cultural legacy in painting, graphics, and cinematography.
