Joseph Beuys
Joseph Beuys (1921–1986) was a German artist and one of the leading theorists of postmodernism. A representative of the Fluxus movement and a creator of conceptual art, he worked as a sculptor, performer, illustrator, and educator.
Biography
Joseph Beuys was born on May 12, 1921, in Krefeld, Germany. He became a significant figure in German and international art, recognized as one of the key theorists of postmodernism. Beuys was a representative of the Fluxus movement, which brought together artists of various disciplines around new creative forms and the ideas of conceptual art. Throughout his career, he combined many professions and directions: he was an artist, sculptor, medallist, performer, illustrator, photographer, draftsman, graphic artist, and engraver. In addition, he taught at a university. Among his most well-known works is the piece "How to Explain Pictures to a Dead Hare." Beuys passed away on January 23, 1986, in Düsseldorf. His contribution to art is considered significant, especially in the field of conceptual art and new forms of artistic expression.
