José Leitão de Barros was born on October 22, 1896, in Lisbon, Portugal. He became one of the classics of Portuguese national cinema, specializing in documentary films. In addition to his work as a documentary film director, José Leitão de Barros was also an actor, writer, journalist, artist, and art historian. Among his notable cinematic works are the films "Ala-Arriba!" and "Inés de Castro." His entire professional career was closely connected with the culture and history of Portugal. He died in Lisbon on June 29, 1967.
