John Brack

John Brack was born on May 10, 1920, in South Melbourne, Australia. He was an Australian artist and a member of the Antipodeans group, which united representatives of contemporary Australian art. Among Brack's most significant works are the paintings "Collins St., 5 pm" and "The Bar," which have become notable in the history of Australian visual art. According to one critic, Brack's early works expressed characteristics of their time more vividly and succinctly than those of other Australian artists before and after him. His art created an iconic image of the decade on canvas, comparable in influence to the theatrical achievements of Barry Humphries. John Brack passed away on February 11, 1999, in Melbourne, leaving a significant legacy in Australian painting.
