John Bauer was born on June 4, 1882, in Jönköping-Christina, Sweden. He was a Swedish artist and illustrator who gained wide recognition for his illustrations for the book series "Among Gnomes and Trolls," an anthology of Swedish folklore and fairy tales that was published annually at Christmas. Bauer's works often explored themes of mythology and the natural landscape of Sweden, and he occasionally created portraits as well. He lived and worked in Sweden, leaving a notable mark on the culture of his country. John Bauer died on November 20, 1918, in Vettern, Sweden.
