Johann Walter-Kurau
Johann Walter-Kurau (born February 3, 1869, Jelgava; died December 19, 1932, Berlin) was a Latvian and Russian Empire artist. He worked in the style of realism, active in Mitau until 1906, then in Dresden from 1906 to 1917, and later in Berlin.
Biography
Johann Walter-Kurau was born on February 3, 1869, in Jelgava, Latvia, then part of the Russian Empire. He was an artist working in the style of realism. Early in his career, Walter-Kurau worked in Mitau until 1906. In 1906, he moved to Dresden, where he lived and created art until 1917. After this period, he relocated to Berlin, where he resided until his death on December 19, 1932. His national and cultural identity is connected to both Latvia and the Russian Empire. His artistic style reflects the realism movement.
