Johann Kaspar Lavater
Johann Kaspar Lavater (1741–1801) was a Swiss writer, theologian, poet, philosopher, educator, pastor, illustrator, and artist from Zurich. He wrote in German and contributed foundational work in criminological anthropology.

Johann Kaspar Lavater was born on November 15, 1741, in Zurich, Switzerland. He was a Swiss writer, theologian, poet, and philosopher who wrote in the German language. Throughout his life, Lavater was also involved in educational activities, serving as a pastor and spiritual counselor. Additionally, he worked as an illustrator and artist. His scholarly interests included criminology, and he laid the foundations for criminological anthropology, a field that studies the relationship between human physical characteristics and criminal behavior. Lavater died on January 2, 1801, in Zurich.
