Biography

Joaquín Torres-García was born on July 28, 1874, in Montevideo. He became a distinguished Uruguayan painter, sculptor, writer, teacher, and art theorist. Throughout his creative career, Torres-García worked in the fields of abstractionism, constructivism, noucentisme, and Universal Constructivism. His artistic legacy encompasses a variety of styles and techniques; he is also recognized as a collagist, illustrator, and monumental artist. Torres-García is regarded as an art figure who combined figurativism and abstraction in his work. Among his most notable works is the piece "América Invertida." He lived his life connected to the cultural spaces of Uruguay and Spain, where he actively pursued his creative activities. Joaquín Torres-García passed away on August 8, 1949, in Montevideo, leaving a significant mark on 20th-century art.
