Jannis Kounellis
Jannis Kounellis (1936–2017) was an Italian artist of Greek origin and a founding figure of Arte Povera. Born in Piraeus and died in Rome, he worked in installation art and was active in various visual arts disciplines including theatre design.

Biography
Jannis Kounellis was born on March 23, 1936, in Piraeus, Greece. He was an Italian artist of Greek descent and one of the founders and leading representatives of the Arte Povera movement. Kounellis worked in various artistic genres, including installation art. In addition to being a visual artist, he was a sculptor, graphic artist, video artist, designer, photographer, theater set designer, and university teacher. His work also encompassed scenography, illustration, performance, and drawing. He was active as a teacher and a figure in the visual arts. Kounellis passed away on February 16, 2017, in Rome, Italy.
