Ivan Trush

Ivan Ivanovich Trush (1869–1941) was a Ukrainian impressionist painter specializing in landscapes and portraits. He was also an art critic and an active organizer of Galician artistic life. Born in Brody, he was a patron and anthropologist, and died in Lviv.

Biography

Ivan Ivanovich Trush was born on January 17, 1869, in the city of Brody, then part of Austria-Hungary. Throughout his life, he witnessed the formation of the West Ukrainian People's Republic and the Ukrainian People's Republic, maintaining cultural and national ties with these regions. Trush was a Ukrainian impressionist painter focused on landscapes and portraits. In addition to painting, he was engaged in art criticism and was an active organizer of artistic life in Galicia. His work extended to anthropology and patronage. Ivan Ivanovich Trush passed away on March 22, 1941, in Lviv. He was the father of notable athletes Myron and Roman Trush.
