Ivan Argunov

Biography

Ivan Petrovich Argunov was born in 1729 within the Russian Empire. He was a serf painter specializing in portraiture. Argunov worked in the artistic styles of parsun and baroque, reflecting the cultural and artistic characteristics of his time. He is recognized as a master of portrait painting; among his notable works is "Portrait of an Unknown Woman in Russian Costume." Argunov lived until 1802, passing away in Moscow. His association with the Russian Empire defined not only his place of birth and death but also his national and cultural identity. Argunov left a significant mark in the history of 18th-century Russian art through his creative activity and skill.
