Ivan Akimov
Ivan Akimov (1755–1814) was a Russian painter and educator, a proponent of classicism, and a leading artist of St. Petersburg during the reigns of Catherine the Great and Paul I. A close student of Anton Losenko, he served as academician and director of the Imperial Academy of Arts from 1796 to 1799.

Ivan Akimovich Akimov was born on May 22, 1755, in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire. He was a well-known Russian painter, draftsman, and teacher, and an advocate of classicism. Akimov was regarded as one of the leading artists of the Petersburg school during the era of Catherine the Great and Paul I. A close pupil of the renowned painter Anton Losenko, he specialized in historical painting and also worked as a monumental decorator. Throughout his career, Ivan Akimovich held important administrative and pedagogical positions: from 1796 to 1799, he was an academician and director of the Imperial Academy of Arts, as well as director of the Imperial Tapestry Manufactory. Additionally, Akimov was awarded the rank of State Councilor. Ivan Akimovich Akimov died on May 15, 1814, in Saint Petersburg, leaving a significant mark in the history of Russian art.
