Biography
Isaac Ilyich Levitan was born on August 18, 1860, in Kibartai. He was a Russian artist of Jewish origin and became one of the most famous landscape painters of the period spanning the counter-reforms and the early Silver Age. His artistic work focused predominantly on landscape and impressionism genres. In 1898, Levitan was inducted into the Imperial Academy of Arts as an academician. Among his most recognized paintings are "Golden Autumn," "Lake," and "The Quiet Abode." Levitan passed away on July 22, 1900, in Moscow, leaving a significant legacy in Russian painting. His work belongs to the era of realism and reflects the cultural environment of the Russian Empire at the end of the 19th century.
