Isaac Fanous
Isaac Fanous (1919–2007) was an Egyptian artist and art historian, the founder of the modern Neo-Coptic iconographic style. Born in Aba al-Waqf and passed away in Azbakeya, he was a scholar and theologian who significantly contributed to the development of Coptic art.
Biography
Isaac Fanous was born on December 19, 1919, in Aba al-Waqf, Egypt. He was an artist and art historian specialized in icon painting. Fanous became a prominent scholar and theologian, known as the founder of the modern Coptic iconographic style, called Neo-Coptic. This style became the most popular within the contemporary Coptic artistic tradition. Throughout his life, Isaac Fanous lived in Egypt, where he made a significant contribution to the development and preservation of Coptic cultural and religious identity through art. He died on January 15, 2007, in Azbakeya, Egypt.
