Biography
Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov was born in 1881 in Mikhaylovskaya. He was a Russian and Soviet artist, educator, and a leading figure in the Russian avant-garde. Mashkov became one of the founders and the public face of the 'Jack of Diamonds' group. Throughout his creative career, he also participated in various other artistic associations such as 'World of Art', the Society of Moscow Artists, the 'Moscow Painters' society, and the Academy of Arts Workers of the Revolution (AHRR). His artistic legacy includes works in still life, portrait, and landscape genres, notably known for compositions such as 'Still Life with Flowers', 'Still Life with Fruits', 'Bathers', and 'Greetings to the 17th Congress of the VKP(b)'. Mashkov worked in a post-impressionist style and later represented Moscow socialist realism. For his contributions, he was awarded the title of Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR in 1928. The artist passed away in 1944 in Abramtsevo.
