Igor Grabar

Biography

Igor Emmanuilovich Grabar was born on March 13, 1871, in Budapest. His career spans the Silver Age and the first decades of the Soviet era. Grabar was a Russian painter and graphic artist who initially worked in St. Petersburg and later in Moscow. He is recognized as one of the leaders of the Russian Impressionist circle. Beyond his artistic work, Grabar was also an art historian and a public figure. His creative output encompasses genre painting, portraiture, landscape, and historical painting. Additionally, he was involved in restoration and worked as an architect, museologist, and art historian. Grabar lived through political entities including Cisleithania, the Russian Empire, the RSFSR, and the USSR. He passed away on May 16, 1960, in Moscow. Igor Emmanuilovich was the younger brother of the lawyer Vladimir Grabar.
