Throughout his life, Merino spent the majority of his time living in Paris, France, where he created many of his well-known works. The artist contributed to Peruvian and international art of the 19th century by developing traditions in genre and historical painting. Ignacio Merino passed away on March 17, 1876, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, where he spent his final years.
