Hŏ Nansŏrhŏn

Biography

Hŏ Nansŏrhŏn (1563–March 19, 1589) was a Korean artist, poet, and writer active during the mid-Joseon period. She was born in the city of Kangneung and died in Hansonbu. Belonging to the cultural milieu of Joseon, she represented the artistic and literary community of her time. Hŏ Nansŏrhŏn was the younger sister of Hŏ Bon, a politician and political writer, and the elder sister of Hŏ Kyun, a distinguished writer known as the author of "The Story of Hong Gil-dong." Her own creative legacy comprises about two hundred poems written in classical Chinese poetry (han-si) and two poems composed in Hangul. Professionally, she was a poet, artist, and writer.
