Biography
Utagawa Hiroshige was born in 1797 in Edo, Japan. He was an artist, illustrator, and woodblock carver, a master of the ukiyo-e genre and one of its last representatives. Hiroshige worked during the Kasei cultural period and was a member of the Utagawa school. Over his creative career, he produced many renowned works, including the series One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, and Eight Views of Ōmi. His works were recognized for their realism and expressiveness in landscape depiction. Utagawa Hiroshige passed away on October 12, 1858, in his native city of Edo. His legacy continues to influence Japanese and global art.
