Hem Vejakorn

Biography

Hem Vejakorn, born on January 17, 1904, in Phra Nakhon, Thailand, was a renowned Thai artist, illustrator, and comic artist. His creative output encompassed a wide range of techniques, including pencil and pen drawings, watercolors, posters, and oil paintings. He became well known for his cover illustrations of 10-satang cheap novels, which significantly influenced subsequent generations of Thai artists and illustrators. Vejakorn was also recognized for his ghost stories. Throughout his life, he produced more than 50,000 works reflecting rural life, Thai history, and characters from Thai classical literature. Hem Vejakorn's works were frequently reproduced on Thai postage stamps and exhibited in art galleries. He passed away on April 16, 1969, in Thonburi.
