Hallgrímur Helgason

Biography

Hallgrímur Helgason was born on February 18, 1959, in Reykjavik, Iceland. From 1979 to 1980, he studied at the Icelandic Academy of the Arts, followed by studies at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts during 1981–1982. After completing his education, Helgason began a career as a writer and artist. His first novel, "Hella," was published in 1990. He gained wider recognition with his 1996 novel "101 Reykjavik." In 2000, Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur adapted this novel into a film of the same name. Outside of literature, Helgason actively works as an artist and cartoonist, organizing exhibitions of his works worldwide. Additionally, he is a playwright and screenwriter. In 2008, he wrote the novel "Housekeeping Tips for a Killer," and in 2011, "Konan sem kyssti of mikið" ("The Woman at 1000°"), both of which were published and translated into Russian by AST Publishing in their "Corpus" series.
