Hale Asaf

Hale Asaf (1905, Istanbul – May 31, 1938, Paris) was a Turkish artist and niece of Mihri Müşfik Hanım. She favored Cubism, distinguishing her work from many contemporaries who worked in classical and impressionist styles.

Biography

Hale Asaf was born in 1905 in Istanbul, then part of the Ottoman Empire, which is also relevant to her cultural affiliation alongside Turkey. She was the niece of one of the first Turkish female artists, Mihri Müşfik Hanım. In her artistic work, Hale Asaf chose Cubism as her main direction, which set her apart from many Turkish artists of the time who preferred classical and impressionist styles. The artist lived and worked during a period of significant cultural changes; her artistic legacy reflects a unique synthesis of Western and Eastern artistic traditions. Hale Asaf passed away on May 31, 1938, in Paris, France.
