Biography
Gustav Gustavovich Klutsis was born on January 4, 1895, in the city of Rūjiena. He was a representative of Constructivism and played a significant role in the Soviet and Latvian avant-garde movements. Klutsis combined numerous professions: artist, photographer, designer, graphic artist, draftsman, and arts activist, highlighting his versatile creative potential. He is recognized as one of the creators of colored photomontage art and was an active poster designer. His career spanned the territories of the Russian Empire, the USSR, and Latvia, which shaped his cultural identity. Gustav Klutsis died on February 26, 1938, in Moscow. His artistic legacy reflects the development of Constructivism and Soviet avant-garde, leaving a meaningful mark in the art history of the 20th century.
