He was a Swiss writer, poet, novelist, and artist, as well as a librettist and office manager. Keller wrote in the German language and is regarded as a classic figure of Swiss literature. His works span the genres of lyrical poetry, novellas, and landscape writing. Among his notable works are "Green Henry," "Martin Salander," "Heroic Landscape," "The Banner of the Upright Seven," and "The People of Seldwyla." He was a representative of the Swiss national and cultural tradition.
