Gerardo Chávez
Gerardo Chávez (1937–2025) was a Peruvian artist and cultural figure from Trujillo, known as a direct follower of the North Group. He founded the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Angelmira Memorial Cultural Center in Trujillo.
Biography
Gerardo Chávez was born on November 16, 1937, in Trujillo, Peru. He was an artist and cultural figure, recognized as one of the direct followers of the North Group, an influential artistic movement in his region. In 2001, Chávez founded the unique Toy Museum in Trujillo, as well as the Museum of Contemporary Art, which became an important cultural center in the city. In memory of his brother, he established the Angelmira Cultural Space. In 2012, he was acknowledged as the most significant Peruvian plastic artist and served as chairman of the Art and Culture Council of Trujillo. Gerardo Chávez passed away on June 22, 2025, in his hometown at the age of 87.
