George Grosz
George Grosz (July 26, 1893 – July 6, 1959) was a German artist known for his work as a painter, lithographer, graphic artist, caricaturist, and illustrator. He worked in genres including genre scenes, portraits, nudes, and still lifes, and was associated with Expressionism, Dadaism, and New Objectivity.
Biography
George Ehrenfried Grosz, also known as Georg Grosz, was born on July 26, 1893, in Berlin. He was a German painter, graphic artist, caricaturist, lithographer, draftsman, photographer, university teacher, writer, illustrator, engraver, and architectural draftsman. Throughout his creative career, Grosz worked in various genres such as genre scenes, portraits, nudes, still lifes, and caricature. He was a representative of the artistic movements of Expressionism, Dadaism, and New Objectivity. He held citizenship of both Germany and the United States during his lifetime. George Grosz passed away on July 6, 1959, in West Berlin.
