Georg Baselitz (born January 23, 1938, in Deutschbaselitz) was a German painter, graphic artist, and sculptor, recognized as a founder of Neo-Expressionism and the "Neue Wilde" style. He also worked as an illustrator, stage designer, and educator. He died on April 30, 2026.

Georg Baselitz was born on January 23, 1938, in Deutschbaselitz (some sources indicate Kamenz). He was a German and Austrian painter, graphic artist, and sculptor. Baselitz is known as one of the founders of Neo-Expressionism and the "Neue Wilde" (New Wild) style. Throughout his creative career, he also worked as an illustrator, stage designer, university lecturer, author, and cultural figure. His body of work includes pieces in the Neo-Expressionist genre, among which "Die große Nacht im Eimer" is notably recognized. Georg Baselitz passed away on April 30, 2026. He was considered one of the most significant artists of his era in Germany and Austria.
