Gaston Eyskens
Gaston Eyskens (1905–1988) was a Belgian politician and economist who served three terms as Prime Minister of Belgium between 1949 and 1973. He was a member of the Catholic Block, later the Social Christian Party, and then the Christian People's Party after a party split.
Biography
Gaston Eyskens was born on April 1, 1905, in the city of Lier, Belgium. He was an economist, university professor, politician, political scientist, and artist. Eyskens served as Prime Minister of Belgium three times during the periods of 1949–1950, 1958–1961, and 1968–1973. In his political career, he belonged to the Catholic Block. After World War II, he joined the Social Christian Party. From 1968 to 1972, he was a member of the Christian People's Party, which was formed following a split in the previous party. Gaston Eyskens died on January 3, 1988, in Leuven.
