Gaganendranath Tagore (1867–1938) was an Indian artist and novelist from British India, nephew of Rabindranath Tagore. Born and died in Calcutta, he worked in cubism and modernism and was also known as a caricaturist.

Biography

Gaganendranath Tagore was born on September 18, 1867, in Calcutta, during the period of British India. He was the nephew of the renowned poet and thinker Rabindranath Tagore. Gaganendranath became a prominent representative of the modernist movement in painting, with cubism being a distinctive genre in his work. Besides painting, he was also active as a caricaturist and novelist, engaging actively in the cultural life of his time. His entire life was closely connected to the city of Calcutta, where he passed away on February 14, 1938.
