Friedrich Dürrenmatt
Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990) was a Swiss German-speaking prose writer, playwright, publicist, and artist. Born in Konolfingen and died in Neuchâtel, he is known for works including the plays The Visit and The Physicists.
Biography
Friedrich Reinhold Dürrenmatt was born on January 5, 1921, in Konolfingen, Switzerland. He became a notable Swiss German-speaking prose writer and playwright, as well as a publicist and artist. Throughout his life, Dürrenmatt was a versatile creator: he engaged in prose writing, dramaturgy, scripted films and television productions, and worked as a director and theatre critic. Among his most well-known works are the plays The Visit, The Physicists, and The Judge and His Hangman, as well as novels such as The Doppelgänger, Suspicion, The Accident, and The Pledge. Dürrenmatt also expressed himself as a graphic artist and poet. He passed away on December 14, 1990, in Neuchâtel. His work holds an important place in Switzerland's cultural heritage.
