Frederic William Burton
Frederic William Burton (1816–1900) was an Irish artist and art historian associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement. He worked in historical painting, portraiture, and genre scenes and served as the third director of the National Gallery, London.
Biography
Frederic William Burton was born on April 8, 1816, in Wicklow, Ireland. He was an artist recognized as a representative of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, as well as an art historian and architectural draftsman. Burton's creative work spans historical painting, portraiture, and genre scenes. Among his notable works is the painting "Hellelil and Hildebrand, the meeting on the turret stairs." He is also known as the third director of the National Gallery in London. Burton passed away on March 16, 1900, in Kensington, London. His national identity was Irish.
