Francis Danby
Francis Danby (1793–1861) was an Irish Romantic artist known for his dramatic landscapes. He developed a unique style within the Bristol School of artists and was active primarily during the 1820s in London.
Biography
Francis Danby was born on November 16, 1793, in Wexford. He was an Irish Romantic era artist who focused mainly on landscape painting. Danby is regarded as a central figure of the Bristol School, a group of artists among whom he developed his distinctive artistic style characterized by drama and imagination. His works are often compared to those of John Martin due to similarities in spectacle and emotional impact. The most successful period of his creative activity was considered to be when he lived in London during the 1820s. Francis Danby died on February 9, 1861, in Exmouth. His cultural affiliation is connected to the Kingdom of Ireland and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. In art, he established himself as a talented landscape painter and artist.
