Francesco Borromini
Francesco Borromini (1599–1667) was a Swiss Baroque architect born in Bissone and died in Rome. Known as a radical figure of mature Roman Baroque, he worked as an architect, builder, engineer, sculptor, and stonemason.

Francesco Borromini, also known as Francesco Castelli, was born on September 25, 1599, in Bissone, Switzerland. He was a versatile craftsman, skilled as an architect, engineer, stonemason, draftsman, builder, and sculptor. Borromini is considered one of the most radical representatives of mature Baroque architecture working in Rome, where he died on August 2, 1667. Among his notable works is the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane, which stands as an example of Roman Baroque. His artistic legacy significantly influenced the architectural style of his time and continues to be studied and appreciated in museum and editorial contexts.
