Fernando de Szyszlo

Fernando de Szyszlo was a Peruvian painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and teacher, born on July 5, 1924, in Lima. From the mid-1950s, he became a key figure in the development of abstract art in Latin America and one of Peru's leading plastic artists.

Biography

Fernando de Szyszlo Valdelomar was born on July 5, 1924, in Lima, Peru. He was a painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and educator who played a significant role in the development of abstract art in Latin America starting in the mid-1950s. Throughout his career, he represented the abstract art movement and is regarded as one of Peru's foremost plastic artists. Szyszlo remained closely connected to the culture of his homeland throughout his life. He passed away on October 9, 2017, in Lima. His work embodies an important chapter in the history of modern art in Peru and the broader Latin American region.
