Félix Vallotton

Biography

Félix Vallotton was born on December 28, 1865, in Lausanne. He was a Franco-Swiss painter, graphic artist, and poet. Vallotton was a member of the artistic group known as the Nabis and engaged in various artistic movements including Symbolism, Post-Impressionism, Impressionism, and Art Nouveau. Throughout his career, he specialized in multiple genres such as portrait, landscape, genre painting, mythology, nudes, self-portrait, and still life. Skilled in etching, he worked as a printmaker, woodcut artist, and illustrator. Additionally, Vallotton was active as an art critic, writer, newspaper editor, art figure, and ex-librīs specialist. He passed away on December 29, 1925, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Some of his notable works include "The Abduction of Europa," "Étude de fesses," "Louis-Alfred Natanson," "The White and the Black," "The Sick Girl," and "Intimités." Vallotton maintained cultural and national ties to both Switzerland and France.
