Fabián de la Rosa

Fabián de la Rosa (1869–1937) was a Filipino painter born in Paco, known as a master of genre painting. He was the uncle and mentor of the Philippine national artist Fernando Amorsolo and also guided Fernando's brother, Pablo Amorsolo.

Fabián de la Rosa was born on May 5, 1869, in Paco, Philippines. He specialized in portrait and genre painting and is recognized as a master of the genre tradition in Filipino art. Beyond his artistic career, de la Rosa played a significant role in the life and career of Fernando Amorsolo, who became a national artist of the Philippines in painting, serving as both his uncle and mentor. Additionally, he mentored Fernando's brother, Pablo Amorsolo. Fabián de la Rosa passed away on December 14, 1937, in Manila, leaving a lasting influence on the development of art in the country.
