Biography
Evelyn Ashamallah was born on August 10, 1948, in Disuq, Egypt, into a Coptic Christian family. Her parents were Ashamallah Iskandar Hanna and Elaine Mikhail Hanna. She had three brothers. Ashamallah is an Egyptian artist whose style diverges from the realism dominant in Egyptian fine arts of the 1960s. She belongs to the generation of the 1970s that was formed after the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. During the 1980s, she lived for several years in Algeria. Evelyn Ashamallah married Egyptian journalist Mahmoud Yousry and has two sons, Bassam and Salam. Her artistic work is recognized for its bright and surreal qualities.
