Etel Adnan
Etel Adnan (1925–2021) was a Lebanese-American poet, essayist, artist, and cultural figure. Born in Beirut and deceased in Paris's 6th arrondissement, her work was associated with the Hurufiyya movement. In 2003, MELUS recognized her as a prominent Arab-American author.
Biography
Etel Adnan was born on February 24, 1925, in Beirut. She was a Lebanese-American poet, essayist, artist, and cultural figure who also worked as a writer, philosopher, designer, teacher, librettist, and draftsman. Throughout her life, Adnan was connected to the cultural traditions of Lebanon, the United States, and France. Her work was linked to the Hurufiyya movement. Etel Adnan passed away on November 14, 2021, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. In 2003, the academic journal MELUS: Multi-Ethnic Literature of the United States named Etel Adnan as one of the most well-known and successful contemporary Arab-American authors.
