Erik Bulatov
Erik Vladimirovich Bulatov (1933–2025) was a Soviet and French artist, sculptor, photographer, and conceptual artist. Born in Yekaterinburg, he became an honorary member of the Russian Academy of Arts in 2008 and a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Arts in 1997. He died in Paris’s 18th arrondissement.
Biography
Erik Vladimirovich Bulatov was born on September 5, 1933, in Yekaterinburg. He gained recognition in both Soviet and French artistic circles as a painter, sculptor, photographer, conceptual artist, illustrator, and figure in the visual arts. Throughout his life, Bulatov combined multiple artistic directions, working in the USSR and Russia while establishing a legacy that continued to influence and be appreciated in France. In 1997, he was named a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Arts, and in 2008, he was honored as a member of the Russian Academy of Arts. Bulatov passed away on November 9, 2025, in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. He left a significant mark on Russian and international visual art, demonstrating expertise across various artistic disciplines and fostering cultural connections between countries.
