Biography
Eric (Eero) Nikolai Järnefelt was born on November 8, 1863, in the city of Viipuri, then part of the Grand Duchy of Finland. He was a distinguished Finnish painter, graphic artist, and professor whose creative activity spanned the period from 1880 to 1910, known as the "golden age" of Finnish art. Järnefelt worked in portrait, genre, and landscape painting. His work is associated with the movement of romantic nationalism, which aimed to express national identity through art. The artist's entire life was closely connected to the territory of the Grand Duchy of Finland and the country of Finland. Eero Järnefelt passed away on November 15, 1937, in Helsinki. His legacy holds a significant place in the history of Finnish visual art as one of the leading figures of his time.
