Biography

Jean Édouard Vuillard was born on November 11, 1868, in Cuiseaux, France, and died on June 21, 1940, in La Baule, France. He was a French painter, graphic artist, lithographer, draftsman, engraver, illustrator, and photographer. Vuillard was a significant figure in French Symbolism at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and was a member of the Nabi art group. He worked across various genres including landscape, portrait, and still life. His artistic oeuvre is associated with Post-Impressionism and Japonisme. Throughout his career, he gained recognition and became a member of the Institut de France. Notable works by Vuillard include "After the snack," "Antoinette David-Weill and her nephew Maurice Lambiotte in Mareil-le-Guyon," and "The Seamstress." Édouard Vuillard had a considerable impact on the development of visual arts during his time.
