Edo Murtić

Edo Murtić (1921–2005) was a Croatian artist and stage designer known for abstract expressionism. Born in Velika Pisanica, he worked in painting, graphics, ceramics, and theater design. He was a founding member of the art group "Mart."

Biography

Edo Murtić was born on May 4, 1921, in Velika Pisanica, Croatia. He gained recognition as a painter, illustrator, graphic artist, and stage designer, working primarily in the styles of lyrical abstraction and abstract expressionism. Over his career, Murtić produced works in oil painting, gouache, graphic design, ceramics, mosaics, frescoes, and also designed theater sets. He traveled extensively and participated in numerous exhibitions across Europe and North America, earning international recognition. In 1956, Murtić became one of the founders of the art group "Mart." His works are held in museums, galleries, and private collections worldwide. Edo Murtić passed away on January 2, 2005, in Zagreb. His contribution to art continues to be valued, supported by retrospective exhibitions of his work held in major museums.
