Dumile Feni

Dumile Feni (born Zwelidumile Geelboi Mgxaji Mhlaba Feni) was a South African artist and sculptor known for drawings, paintings with sculptural elements, and standalone sculptures. His work often reflected the struggle against apartheid. He spent much of his career in exile, enduring extreme poverty.

Biography

Zwelidumile Geelboi Mgxaji Mhlaba "Dumile" Feni was born on May 21, 1942, in Worcester, South Africa. He was a South African artist, sculptor, and art figure. Feni was known for his works that include drawings, paintings incorporating sculptural elements, as well as standalone sculptures. The themes of his art frequently reflected the fight against apartheid in South Africa. He spent the majority of his creative career in exile, experiencing extreme poverty. Dumile Feni passed away on October 16, 1991, in New York.
